Jonathan Larson (February 4, 1960 – January 25, 1996) was an American composer from New York City who created musicals including Rent (1996) and tick, tick...BOOM! (1990).
These musicals seriously tackle issues such as multiculturalism, addiction, sexual orientation and HIV. Rent was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won four Tony Awards. The scores of his shows reveal that he was an apt composer and lyricist.
One tick, tick...BOOM! song called "Sunday" is an homage to Stephen Sondheim, who supported Larson.

O Magnum Mysterium
This is one of my most recent works, and surely one of my best. This piece went from being a small project to pass the time, to a virtual choir experience, to having a world premiere in May 2021, conducted by Dr. Gerrit Scheepers and performed by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Chorale. This piece endured a wild ride, but came out better than I could have imagined.more

Explorations of a New World
This was one of my compositions from about a year ago, which I wrote for my music theory class. When composing this piece, I had images of young people exploring rural Europe at twilight, so hopefully that imagery comes across in the music. It is written in G Dorian for solo piano.more
